My back hurt but I stretched it out. I slept the night before while we waited for the pizza. Christina planned out the route for the day. After adjusting and preparing in the car. An apple in hand, we walked down to Oak Street Beach. I was happy to feel the sand beneath my feet. Christina was happy to play in the water. I love how beautiful Chicago is in the summer!
We wandered through the streets into the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA). They had an Isa Genzken retrospective. There was also an exhibit called "Unbound: Contemprary Art After Frida Kahlo. There was one particular work of art by Shirin Neshat that really affected me. It was called "Turbulent" (1998) and if juxtaposed social acceptance of performances by male vs. female in her culture.
There was a farmer's market outside of the MCA. We walked to Waffles Cafe to experience the magic of WONUTS! We tried an array of flavor: Green Tea, Red velevt, Chocolate Chip Banana, and Mexican Chocolate.
We hiked through the city to get to Soldier Field for the FIFA 2014 World Cup Screening of the USA vs. Belgium match. we lost 1-2 and were disqualified from the game. After the game. we walked to: Lincoln Park, Buckingham Fountain, Cloud Gate "Bean", "Can", Marina City Complex, Millennium Park, and the city in general.
The night ended after a mexican food dinner, laundry, and uploading of pictures.
Day 15 -
Woke up - showered.
Walked to Mixed Greens for much needed vegetables. I ordered a Mexicali Salad.
field greens, corn, black beans, white cheddar cheese, cilantro, plum tomatoes, corn chips, and honey lime vinaigrette.
We went to the Art Institute of Chicago check out the Rene Magritte Exhibit. It was really great to see his early influences such as collage, film noir, mystery and stereoscopy.
Breaking apart words and meaning. Common motifs repeated. Replacing image with image vice versa.
No cameras allowed - no sketchbooks allowed? Really? Okay.
Strange experience silently walking through the crowded gallery space with strangers. We were engaged in a strange dance.
Wandering through the modern and contemporary wings. Resting on the strawberry couch waiting for rain to pass in Chicago. It was a cold, misty walk back to Erica's apartment.
Dinner at Cemitas Puebla before we parted ways and continued our trip. I had a Cemita Milanesa as seen on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
