2018.09.21 - Philadelphia

Not Philadelphia but putting it out there... I really want to visit Cincinnati's Contemporary Art Center to see Swoon's installation!

Right so back on track - planning a day trip to Philadelphia. It is a city that is relatively close to Maryland and the drive is not terrible at all - what I thought was about 2 hours + traffic is actually more like 3-4 hours.

I have usual places that I tend to visit and explore and drag people to discover for their first time.

Collections:
I love the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Admission is pricey at $20/$14 students. I feel like I walk through my art history textbooks when I walk through their galleries. I love it!

I have been wanting to visit the Mutter Museum. I just found out that Lisa Nilsson has is displaying her quilled paper art Tissue Series. admission is $18/$13 students. So we decided to make this our first stop. This collection is amazing! It was one of the strangest places I have visited. I really appreciated the collection of skulls. I could not look at some of the displays. They were very graphic. We did not stay for too long since our journey began later than I expected, I underestimated the length of the drive, and we had a limited timed parking spot. I really liked it and I saw a fragment of ALBERT EINSTEIN'S BRAIN!

Cuisine:
After our successful arrival and field trip to the Mutter Museum, we were very hungry. In the past, I have driven to Philadelphia solely for cheesesteaks. I've tried Pat's, Jim's, and Ishkabibbles. They
say go to South Street for food and the Magic Garden is right there. The Reading Terminal Market is also another really cool place to explore and try food. We did not have a plan prepared but we were also told to get shwarma in Philadelphia and visit Saad's Halal Restaurant. We were very hungry and decided to each order a platter. We were surprised to receive so much food for what we asked and had plenty of leftovers to eat after. We planned on visiting South Street to get a cheesesteak before we left but never quite got hungry after our meal from Saad's.

Music Venues:
I considered going to the Electric Factory for a show. I had visited Philadelphia in the past and seen the Mars Volta perform there back in 2008. I found a Burlesque show for that night. We visited La Peg for a Fringe Arts Performance: Burlesque-N-Beyond Philadelphia!: SUGARHUSTLE.

Random:
We managed to get a little bit of the sunset at Bartram's Garden in their meadow and then had a surprise situation and had to visit the Hospital of the University of Philadelphia.

The advertising for FRA is ridiculous but it could be worth the opportunity to just explore all their amenities including the Quiet Room, Silent Chairs, Yoga Rooms, and Movie World.

FLORIDA

So I am dreaming again. The forecast is kinda bumming out. I wonder whether to invest time in travel. I hope for sun although I fear sunburn. I don't want to be driving in the storm with lightning and thunder. It is beautiful to see the storm in the horizon. I do not feel the safest while traveling in that type of weather.

I had dreamed of Spain - I hope to postpone that until Summer 2018
Japan will happen when the time is right.
We were going to road trip to the Southern US but work and commitments got most of our time. I was hoping to drive to North Carolina - either towards Asheville or along the Outer Banks next week but the weather is not in our favor.
California was a crazy opportunity and that I realized would pull me away from where I wanted to be and involved a lot of movement. I want stillness and waves. I want a sunset. I want painted skies and glistening water.

Birthday Month is the Best Month!

Happy August! I am partial to the number 8. Infinity!

I am making choices. No one else can make my choices for me and any choice is the right choice. I am not worried. I am not stressed. I am sheltered. I am working at home. I want clean. I want space. Life is really weird. I am sitting here like Ariel in her Grotto. Happy.

Reflections (8/14/17):
Ocean City, Maryland is not very far away. The drive is not bad. I prefer driving down Route 404 than taking US-50 all the way down. In the past month, I have visited twice with very special people.
8/1-2: Thunderbird Beach Motel was right next to the beach and guaranteed parking. We had access to the pool and changing rooms even after we checked out. It was nice. During this visit, I ended up purchasing nail polish from Del Sol. Thier store was super cool and their products are amazing because they change colors. I hesitate to recommend their nail polish because they are fun but they chip easily and the pigment is very light and requires multiple layers for full-color coverage. The color change does not seem as apparent although I admit that the skies have been cloudy and I have not been able to directly expose the color to sunlight. Basically, they are cool but not that cool.

This summer we went to New Jersey and Minnesota. Both trips were super fun and amazing. I am hoping to work on those reflections soon.

I had originally intended to go to Spain in August and that did not happen to I dreamed of going to California. I decided to stay more local this month because I really wanted to rest and ground myself. I wanted to be near people I care about. I thought about going to other places by car. All can be done in the future eventually.  --- Virginia? North Carolina. Florida? Louisiana? New York?

CANADA! Plans are in the works for Toronto in November and possibly Victoria, British Columbia and Edmonton, Alberta at some point in the future.

Focus.
